The average American spends approximately 300 hours a year riding around in a car. With that much time on the road you’ll want to make sure a few things come standard, notably comfort and safety. Premium interior materials and superior drive handling have long made comfort a Mercedes-Benz brand standard and, Mercedes-Benz focus on refining and developing smart technologies to improve passenger safety has always led to a safer driving experience. Now, thanks to Intelligent Drive, that safe driving experience is safer than ever.

By expanding upon Mercedes-Benz existing safety features, Intelligent Drive utilizes cutting-edge technology to improve overall driving safety for you, your passengers, and all others on the road. It works by actively preventing collisions through the use of three primary features: Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, and BAS® Plus.

Active Lane Keeping Assist monitors your Mercedes-Benz position on the road and will alert you if you start to drift outside the boundaries of your lane, effectively warning you of any unintended lane departures. Additionally, if you are at risk of collision and no action is taken to correct your unintended lane drift, then Lane Keeping Assist will use one sided braking to automatically correct the position of your vehicle.

Active Blind Spot Assist senses when there is another vehicle riding in your blind spot. It too will automatically activate your brakes and steer your vehicle back into its lane if it believes you are at risk of collision.

Brake Assist System Plus (BAS® Plus) is an additional alert system that utilizes stereo cameras and radar sensors to detect cross traffic and pedestrians in your path. Just like Lane Keeping Assist and Blind Spot Assist, if a vehicle or pedestrian crosses in front of your Mercedes-Benz, BAS® will apply the braking force needed to avoid collision.

Intelligent Drive is a full suite of safety features available across the entire Mercedes-Benz line-up, Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, and BAS® Plus are just three of these features. We’ll explore each feature in more detail in future posts.
