Maintain Your Mercedes-Benz
- Battery – Potentially in a weakened state and warrants testing and, possibly, replacing
- Tires – They lose pressure when sitting and, in cold weather. Uneven or low tire tread can also present dangers when driving in rainy or snowy conditions.
- Windshield Wipers – Old, cracked wipers can obscure your view. Make sure to replace and add fluid in your reservoir
- Fluids – Oils and other fluids such as antifreeze are meant to protect components, over time they lose their effectiveness and can even begin to run low. Check your fluids to make sure vital components stay protected.
Stock Your Mercedes-Benz
If you’re planning to be on the road, now is the best time to stock your vehicle with the essentials that may save you in a time of need. Be sure to carry the following:
- Flashlight
- Jumper Cables
- Shovel, Ice Scraper & Abrasive Material – such as sand or kitty litter in case your vehicle gets stuck in the snow
- Warning Devices – flares provide ample time for approaching vehicles to see you in an emergency
- For longer trips, consider packing blankets, medication, food and water,
and a cell phone.
Protect Yourself
- Buckle up and use child safety seats properly
- Never place a rear-facing infant seat in front of an air bag
- Children 12 and under are much safer in the back seat
Prevent Crashes
- Drugs and alcohol never mix with driving
- Slow down and increase distances between cars
- Keep your eyes open for pedestrians walking in the road
- Avoid fatigue – Get plenty of rest before the trip, stop at least every three hours, and rotate drivers if possible
- Pay attention while driving — stay off your phone
